Editor's comments
Abstract
At the beginning of this issue appears the Call for papers for the XXX OSTIV Congress to be held 21 to 28 July 2010 in Szged, Hungary at the site of the 31th World Gliding Championships in the Open-, 18m- and 15m Class. Please plan on submitting your studies so we can all learn from each other!
This issue continues the publication of papers presented at the August 2008 Congress in Lüsse-Berlin. The paper by Miroslaw Rodzewicz and Pitor Sierputowski describes a novel ground-borne and air-borne airfoil section used to test the aerodynamics in a natural environment. The paper by Roland Stuff describes the theory and behavior of a vortex-pair with application to aircraft wake vorticies. The paper by Christoph Kensche and associates presents results of fatigue tests on reinforced-plastic components and spar beams.
The following Associate Editors located the reviewers and supervised the reviews of the manuscripts in this issue: Mark Maughmer (Rodzewicz and Sierputowski) and Helmut Fendt (Kensche and colleagues). I handled the paper by Roland Stuff because he died in March 2009 before his manuscript could go through the review process; the paper was read for accuracy by an Associate Editor and is published to honor his enthusiastic presentation in Lüsse. To assure accuracy of the manuscripts, each senior author received a ‘galley-proof’ for corrections-only prior to publication.
I applaud the team that made this issue possible in a timely manner: associate editors, peer-reviewers authors, copy-editor/layout, printers and distributors. Thank you!
You are encouraged to send comments on papers to me so a useful dialogue with the author(s) can occur in Technical Soaring.
Finally, we are developing ‘Technical Soaring’ online to compliment the print copy. The main benefits of being online will be unlimited use of color, access to back-issues and, as members choose to terminate receiving print copies, saving OSTIV money. We expect to be online with ‘TS’ 33(4), the October-December 2009 issue.
