AN EMPIRICAL CRITERION FOR LAMINAR-TO-TURBULENT BOUNDARY-LAYER TRANSITION
Keywords:
Aerodynamics, DesignAbstract
A simple empirical criterion for prediction of the laminar-to-turbulent transition inboundary layers is presented. It considers the instability history of the boundary layer without evaluating the amplification rates of the linear instability theory. Because the instabilityhistory also influences the size of the laminar separation bubbles, it was also possible to develop an empirical evaluation of the drag increase due to separation bubbles. Several examples demonstrate the capabilities of the procedure.Downloads
